Cuesta del Viento — Rodeo, Argentina
A meltwater reservoir at over 1,500 metres in the San Juan desert, where the wind arrives almost on a timetable. Flat water and 20 to 35 knots.
The plan
What the week looks like
Cuesta del Viento, in Rodeo, is the windiest spot on our calendar and probably the most famous in Argentina: a meltwater reservoir at over 1,500 metres where the wind comes in almost on schedule at 20 to 35 knots over perfectly flat water. Eight days, twelve people, reached by crossing the Andes by van from La Serena. Intermediate and advanced only, and you bring your own gear.
We meet in La Serena and cross the Andes through the Agua Negra pass — a full day of altitude and desert that is a large part of why this trip exists. Seven nights in Rodeo, with a daily run out to the reservoir.
What makes Rodeo famous is the reliability: the wind builds through the day and arrives with enough regularity that you can plan around it. Combined with completely flat water, it is one of the best places on the continent for freestyle and for putting real hours into technique.
Written objectives on arrival, a forecast briefing every morning, video analysis every night you ride, and an exit report.
Requirements: ride upwind without losing ground, relaunch your kite unassisted, and bring your own gear. We do not take beginners: with 20 to 35 knots, a first lesson here is a bad idea.

Preguntas frecuentes
Common questions before booking
Can a beginner come?
No. With 20 to 35 knots this is not a place to learn, and we would rather say so than sell you a bad week. Puclaro, in Chile, is the trip the week before and is built for exactly that.
Do I need my own gear?
Yes. This is the one South American trip where gear is not included: the wind is strong and you want kit you already know. If you do not have gear, message us before booking and we will work it out.
What if the mountain pass closes?
It happens, and it is the one real risk of this trip. If Agua Negra closes we reroute via Mendoza. Costs arising from a closure or a detour are not included, which is why we say it here rather than in the small print.
